My thought is that Luke's strength in that quest would have been even more remarkable had Vader remained the killer of his father rather than being his father.

All of that notwithstanding, it is/was Lucas's story to tell as he saw fit and I remain a fan of his Galaxy far far away.

Mahalo. It's something he needs to believe for his own sake. Luke being willing to save Vader is as also strength and if anything it was the right decision. ...Aloha Kristy - Thanks for your generous comments.

For the helmet the goal was not only to look good, but to be light weight and easy for a 7 year old to wear.

Started with a plastic toy helmet (of a US Army M1 helmet). Turned it around so he wore it backwards.

Cut out the ear holes, and then added the neck guard and check pieces. (It is amazing what you can do with cardboard, duct tape and a sharp knife). The centurion's crest was attached by a wood screw through the top of the helmet into a small piece of wood at the base of the crest. I would love to have used horse hair for the crest, but feathers were much easier to work with.

The following Halloween we upgraded the greaves and added a better looking gladius and pugio. The gladius is wooden (from Soul Of The Warrior) and the pugio we made ourselves, also out of wood.

There is a short video of the costume from that first Halloween posted on YouTube. It might afford you some better shots of the helmet.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZEDFeSXlls&list=FLI1OIYKK-vqdvIjUQpiJ-jA&index=58

Thanks again for your comments!

Narukami

Narukamihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16884079775625846790noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8628303010303391859.post-52960344194671108312013-03-08T12:03:24.620-08:002013-03-08T12:03:24.620-08:00What did you use for the helmet? I had every intention of studying pre-modern Japanese History, but discovered that none of the history professors were interested in teaching that topic or had just done so and were on to something else.

However...

There were two professors there, one an expert on puppet theatre and the other on kabuki who were very enthusiastic about Japanese Theatre and ready to teach. I switched my focus and never looked back.

You might find this earlier post of passing interest.

http://narukamisthunderbolts.blogspot.com/2009/03/pure-acting-kabuki-actor-nakamura.html

Thanks again for your most generous comments.Narukamihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16884079775625846790noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8628303010303391859.post-79808698589981599332013-02-18T06:40:04.689-08:002013-02-18T06:40:04.689-08:00Really good post regarding Kabuki Theater. Live theater is a slowly contracting cultural phenomenon that Kabuki, doing all kinds of things that movies and t.v. can't, could have an effect on. But you and other Kabuki-ites already know this.Priscilla Gay Smithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16705139563373026789noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8628303010303391859.post-40161730416589206312010-12-16T17:20:44.462-08:002010-12-16T17:20:44.462-08:00Thank you Vicky, you are too kind.

The real impediment is time.

That is one reason I like the C&C game system -- most battles can be fought in under an hour, or a little longer if you are, like me, constantly double-checking the rulebook.

Poor Hannibal -- if he is not being mistaken for a modern day cannibal then he is often thought to have led a Green Beret A Team on all sorts of impossible missions.

Actually Vicky, I think your idea for a book on Hannibal is excellent. As you may know the actor Vin Diesel has been working on a film about Hannibal for several years now. If that film ever gets out of Development Hell and actually released, it might spur your publisher to give your book the Green Light. Quite a few authors and publishers took similar advantage of Oliver Stone's film Alexander and there is no reason why you should not do the same.

Thanks again for taking the time to comment.

DLRNarukamihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16884079775625846790noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8628303010303391859.post-21695391746063766712010-08-23T05:08:11.754-07:002010-08-23T05:08:11.754-07:00Excellent post! I have written books for kids about Alexander the Great and Cleopatra and I really want to write a book about Hannibal (and, of course, Africanus) but few publishers are interested. If I say the name Hannibal, most kids (and adults!) today think of the character from the scary movie, if they know the name at all.
